Bringing indigenous rights to the forefront
Indigenous territories increasingly host renewable energy projects without the respect for the rights of indigenous peoples and often without meaningful consultation and consent. Indigenous peoples’ rights to their lands and resources, to participation in decision-making, and their equal access to energy and benefit sharing must be central considerations in global renewable energy expansion.
empowering indigenous led solutions
Indigenous peoples can also offer innovative renewable energy solutions and could be major contributors to solving problems around energy access and clean energy. Empowering indigenous communities will accelerate progress in renewable energy. These approaches can have multiple co-benefits, including greater community wealth and cohesion.
learning and exchange to grow the movement
The Partnership will will support knowledge exchange, solidarity and collaboration between indigenous peoples and other development actors. This will allow indigenous communities to learn from each other as well as benefit from non-indigenous partners will accelerate and amplify change. Additionally, other partners can learn from and support best practice in human rights-based and indigenous-led approaches.
